PGL of Edinburgh Donate £6k to SANDS
The Provincial Grand Lodge of Edinburgh make a donation of £6000 to the Lothian Stillbirth and Neonatal Death Society (SANDS)
As reported in the Edinburgh Evening News today the closure-threatened charity has received a much-needed donation to tide them over the Christmas period.
SANDS manager Dorothy Maitland has expressed the grateful thanks of the Society to Brother Alex B.M. McLachlan, the Right Worshipful Provincial Grand Master of the Provincial Grand Lodge of Edinburgh when the donation was announced.
SANDS had been unable to secure funding from alternative sources and had restricted their services. When the Provincial Grand Lodge of Edinburgh became aware of their plight, an immediate donation was forthcoming to ensure the continuation of the services until core funding could be restored.
SANDS have received the support of Chancellor Gordon Brown and his wife Sarah as the services offered are particularly poignant to them.
Non-masonic charitable donations
The Provincial Grand Lodge give significant donations to non-masonic charities each year, but this donation has been given in addition to other commitments to ensure the continuation of the valuable services which SANDS offer bereaved families.
